R.J. was born in Cuba and grew up amidst the civil wars of Central America before migrating to Texas, where he lives with his wife Lory.
In addition to his passion for writing fiction, R.J. holds a computer engineering degree from LSU, is a licensed private pilot, a certified SCUBA diver, and a firearms enthusiast.
